Self guided hotel based hiking tour, Slovenia

The idea of this tour is to do hiking/walking day trips and be based in a comfortable hotel or self-catering apartment. You can stay in the same hotel for a week, but what we find most convenient is to switch locations every 3-4 nights, which gives you the possibility to explore different regions of Slovenia without too much driving, thus having more time to spend in the nature.

If you would like to do easy valley walks from the doorstep of your hotel, you won't need a car. We will arrange airport transfers and of course the transfers when you switch locations (hotels). It is easy to catch a bus to visit Bled, Ljubljana or some other sites for a day. If you wish, we can also organize a guided day trip to some more remote areas, which are difficult to access using public transport.

If you prefer more flexibility and desire longer day hikes in high alpine terrain, we definately recommend having a car, which is necessary to access the trailheads higher up in the mountains. Of course this also gives you the flexibility to stop anywhere along the way to the trail heads, when switching locations or do day trips as far as Salzburg or Venice. :)

Our favorite bases for day hikes are: Lake Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Bovec (Soca valley) & Logar valley. See the first picture above and the description below to get a feeling of the landscape in each region.

          1. Lake Bohinj is as close to paradise as it gets. Amazing lake, truly beautiful surroundings, endless hiking options of different difficulties and a comfortable base to visit the famous Lake Bled or Ljubljana using public transport.
          2. Kranjska Gora is a skiing town tucked in Slovenia's far north-western corner. A very convenient base to do day hikes in Slovenia, Austria and Italy. Via-ferratas across steep limestone walls or easy family walks: you name it!
          3. Soca valley is Slovenia's "outdoor mecca"! Its steep mountains and deep valleys offer a wide array of water adventures (kayaking, rafting, canyoneering, fly-fishing,...) as well as enchanting valley walks or demanding alpine hikes. On top of this it is also the home of world's best female chef!
          4. Kamnik-Savinja Alps is a bit less known region in north Slovenia, but equally beautiful than the Julian Alps. The "main star" of the region is Logar valley, but there is so much more to explore, taste and see. We recommend having a car here to have the flexibility to enjoy the wide arrange of hiking opportunities.
          5. Goriska Brda wine hills: the region's nickname is "Slovenian Tuscany". The land of endless vineyards, amazing food, top-notch wine and beautiful walks through vineyards and hilltop villages. Usually too hot to hike in summer (from late June until late August), amazingly beautiful in spring and autumn.

Does this feel like a good match? Tell us your wishes and we will prepare a 100% customized trip!

        3. Why walk in Slovenia with Slotrips?

Because we do what we love!

Review by Adina and Andreas from Israel, visited us in June 2017

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful 12 day visit in Slovenia. Slotrips organized a wonderful combination of a self-guided hiking tour and a one-day guided tour of the most beautiful sites in the country. Excellent accommodations, maps, explanations and luggage transfers for our point-to-point hike were all included. We can whole-heartedly recommend Slotrips!
