It is the ultimate tour for all nature lovers who would like a mix of serious hiking and fun on crystal clear rivers and lakes, get to know the vibrat city of Ljubljana and savour authentic Slovenian food & wine.

The group will meet in Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital city, and then we head off to the mountains to do an amazing 3-day hut-to-hut hike in the heart of the Julian Alps. Don't worry: the huts are fully equipped and you don't need to bring any special gear or food. Everything is there. The hike is technically easy, however you have to be reasonably fit to hike 6-7 hours, overcome app. 15 km (10 miles) and 800 meters (2500 feet) of altitude difference on the hardest day of our hike. After the hike we will explore & have a swim in the stunning lakes of Bohinj & Bled, before continuing to the valley of the emerald Soca river. Here we will climb another fantastic peak, enjoy the rugged landscape of the Julian Alps & discover the hidden secrets of the Soca valley. If you would like to pump your adrenaline, you'll have a chance to do white water rafting, kayaking or canyoning! Continuing towards south we will visit the historic town of Kobarid and finish our tour between the rolling wine hills of Goriska Brda with some first class local food & wine.

Maximum number of guests is 16. In case of more than 8 guests we travel around Slovenia with 2 guides in two 8-seater minivans. This allows us to divide the group during hiking into 'fast' and 'not as fast' group. Well prepared hikers will add a few extra summits and the rest will enjoy the hike at a bit slower pace.

      Good to know:

The mountain huts in Slovenian Alps are quite basic, but they offer everything a hiker needs: food, drinks and accommodation. Rooms have 4, 6 or 12 beds. The bathrooms are shared, they have flush toilets, running water and hot showers. You don’t need a sleeping bag, but a thin cotton or silk sleeping liner (bed sheet) is advisable. Luggage transfer between the mountain huts is NOT possible. You will need to carry your equipment throughout the 3-day hike. The main luggage is transferred to the hotel where we stay after the 3-day trekking.

    • Day 1 - Welcome to Slovenia

Travellers from around the world come on their own to Ljubljana (let us know if you need help with airport transfer). Free time to enjoy the lovely Slovenian capital city. In the afternoon, the group will meet the guide over a welcome drink, discuss the details of the tour and get to know each other.

Accommodation in a hotel in Ljubljana.

Day 2 - Bled & beginning of trekking in the Julian Alps

In the morning we set off to the magical Lake Bled. We will have time to visit the island, walk up to a stunning viewpoint or just relax on the lakeside and have a swim. At noon we will move on towards Bohinj where we begin our 3-day trekking through the Triglav National Park. We will pass by the endearing alpine pastures to reach a comfortable mountain hut with amazing views of Mount Triglav, the highest Slovenian mountain.

      Accommodation in a mountain hut

Day 3 - Trekking in the Julian Alps (Valley of 7 Triglav Lakes)

Today is the hardest day. The path will take us through stunning Alpine scenery with spectacular views and an option to ascend a fantastic peak (extra 1 hour & 250 meters elevation gain). We will descend down the Valley of the 7 Triglav Lakes, learn about the geological history of this incredible landscape and perhaps even find some fossils in the rocks. We will spend the night in a comfortable mountain hut next to one of the lakes.

      Accommodation in a mountain hut.

Day 4 - Trekking in the Julian Alps & Lake Bohinj

Slowly we will leave the highest peaks behind and enter the land of the alpine pastures. We will try some delicious local products and have a lunch at a local alpine farmhouse. We will explore the stunning Lake Bohinj and treat ourselves to an unforgettable swim in its crystal clear waters.

      Hiking: 10 km / elevation +200 m, -800 m / approx. 4 hours

Accommodation in a hotel in Bohinj.

Day 5 - Hiking around Vrsic mountain pass

We will move northwest to approach the north face of Mt. Triglav and walk under the spectacular Pericnik Waterfall. We will drive the winding road to the impressive mountain pass Vrsic in the centre of the Julian Alps and hike to the summit of Slemenova Spica with spectacular limestone walls all around us. Maybe we will even have enough time to jump into the cold Soca river before reaching our next location - Bovec.

Accommodation in a hotel in Bovec (Soca valley).

Day 6 - Mt. Mangart & the Soca valley

Today we will climb the mighty Mt. Mangart on the border between Slovenia and Italy. It offers jaw-dropping views on 3 countries and a truly amazing hike. After a great lunch we will explore some hidden corners and waterfalls in the Soca valley.

      Hiking: 8 km / elevation +650 m, -650 m / approx. 5 hours

Accommodation in a hotel in Bovec (Soca valley).

Day 7 - Kobarid & Goriska Brda wine hills

We will move southward to visit the stunning Kozjak Waterfall and historic town of Kobarid. If you are up for some water activities, you should definately try rafting on the Soca river! After lunch we continue to the wine region of Goriska Brda ("Slovenian Tuscany") to enjoy a completely different landscape - rolling wine hills, fruit orchards and hilltop villages. Tasting some delicious local products and of course wine is a must. There will be a great farewell dinner in the evening.

    • Why hike in Slovenia with Slotrips?

Because we do what we love!

Review by Kathryn from Ireland, visited us in July 2016

I booked the 8 day hiking trip with Slotrips as I had little experience hiking alone but and I felt this was a great way to gain some experience. I gained more than I could have imagined!! This was an incredible trip for me and it is all down to Miha and his team at Slotrips. From the first email Miha was prompt, positive, understanding and professional and Miha turned out to be the very same in person. He gave us the best of everything from the food to the hiking to the accommodation to the fun to the knowledge of the areas. His passion made our experience unforgettable. Miha looked out for everyone so well and he thought of everyone in that he adapted the hikes according to who was on the trip. Miha speaks English and Spanish fluently and he gave our group a great insight into the Slovenian way of life. We did so much swimming in lakes, rivers, waterfalls. We saw incredible views on our various hikes. We ate amazing local food especially as we came down from the mountain in local sheppard huts. We stayed in excellent accommodation (the mountain huts are actually very cosy and comfortable!) Everything we did was of the highest standard. It's going to be difficult to do an organised trip again as Miha has set the bar very high and I don't think others tours could match this one! Don't second question whether to book a trip with Slotrips as I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.
